I had been wanting to buy a lipstick since forever, but I was always waiting for "the right" time, whatever that meant. So finally fed up with waiting I decided to take the plunge, but after a trip to the drug store I realized I had no idea what color to choose. So I decided to go home and ask in the best place to ask for advice, Facebook. I was surprised at how many girls were willing to give their advice and by popular demand I went to Macy's to the MAC department.

I have to tell you that I had never in my life had applied lipstick on myself. The story goes that around the time I started wearing makeup the trend was to wear those glossy GLOSSY lip glosses that make your lips look super wet. Do you remember those? Well, I remember purchasing one myself and wearing it to school. But every time there was a little gust of wind, a harsh movement, my hair would get stuck on my lips and I ended eating my hair that entire day! That day I decided Chap-sticks were the way to go. And ever since I was 12 until now I had never put on lipstick. Sure, I have worn lipstick before but when someone else applied it on me.

So when I arrived to the MAC store and I asked one of the ladies for lipsticks colors she sanitized one of the lipsticks and handed it to me to try... I literally held the lipstick on my hand looked at myself in the mirror and realized... Crap, I've never done this before! Uh... I smacked the lipstick on my lips in a weird manner moving it across my lips and smacking them together as my husband stared at me from the other side of the room. She looked at me and said, "I don't think that's your color...Let's try a different one." She then proceeded to sanitize another one and handed me the Ruby Woo Red. I started to try my best to do this again, but missed my lip and smudged it around my chin, the lady kindly handed me a tissue until I turned around and said, "I have no idea what I'm doing!" She chuckled and asked me to sit on the chair. She tried about three different colors on me and we decided to go with the Ruby Woo Red and the Cherry Red lip pencil.

After my embarrassment at the mall, I went to the best make-up training in the world, YouTube. Sadly, I couldn't really find a great video for beginners on lips. What I realized with my lips is that they are thin and not really well defined like a lot of other girls are, so I spent my whole sunday morning practicing and practicing and finally the picture you see above was my best and final try. I know with time and practice I'll get better, but I felt like a 12 year old again trying to figure out how to do this makeup thing all over again. Well, at least I got a good story to tell. If you have any other colors to recommend I'd love to hear about those, I will be making more and hopefully less embarrassing trips to the makeup section. :)

  4. that colour is awesome! btw I can sympathise about lacking skills most other girls have. It wasn't until this year I started using eyeliner and realised it's actually a skill to put on properly!
